Traditional bulk electrolyte-supported solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) plants are known to require excessive warm-up times (>5 hours). Those SOFC devices have not made substantial in-roads into fast-response applications.
Thermo-Mechanical Performance Improvement over Other SOFC Technologies
- Provide rapid-on capability, warm-up time <2 minutes
- Membranes can be exposed to 100 °C per second temperature cycle repeatedly without apparent degradation
- Tolerance with repeated heat-up times of several hundred °C / minute, and planar thermal gradients of > 100 °C / inch
- Improved reliability and lifetime
